June 2023: Start of the Month

I have never been very good about maintaining blogs even though I often have many thoughts running through my mind. Part of the issue is that I become very shy or deeply immersed in whatever I am doing. The irony is that almost the disciplines that I have worked in value consistent documentation.

But I digress.

This blog – as well as many other projects – is one of the elements that I will be exploring as I try to re-build a practice and working structure for myself. For the first time in my life, I am absolutely free to create in whatever manner, medium, timeline, etc. that I wish. I have no institutional goals to meet, no communities to satisfy, no financial targets, nothing. So I thought it might be good for me to start afresh.

Some of my projects will be carried out under an alter-ego that I am developing and will take a few months to take shape. In the meantime, my daily experimentation will be documented at https://www.instagram.com/spiralharder/ using the ‘spiral’ as a guiding principle for creative investigation.

I will also be in intense preparations for the upcoming 6th International Dance and Somatic Practices Conference 2023 at Coventry University/C-DaRE. It will be the first time that I will be a part of the main organizing committee and not just an attendee or presenter. When I first attended in 2017, I never imagined that I might possibly present there much less get involved with the actual planning and logistics. This will also be my first time back in 4 years, so there is some anxiety over that as well.

At the top is an image that I generated in Midjourney a while ago…I know that many artists are very much against AI art, but the tool has allowed me to live vicariously on days when my body refuses to cooperate.
